SITE SETTING

The Valley

The valley that Honorbound takes place in is one with no name, but it has been the home of the three clans for longer than any living cat can remember. It resides along the coast of an also unnamed ocean, a circle of mountains that are snowy further inland and not snowy closer to the ocean bordering the valley. Within this half of a bowl is primarily plains and pine forest, with just a little bit of more sandy-soil and some oak forest along the bottom edge. While hardly any, if any at all, of the cats who live within the valley know what can be found outside of it, there are very few who have ever actually seen or heard stories of the creatures known as twolegs, so it can be heavily assumed that if twolegs truly do exist, they don't live anywhere near the valley.

Climate

The valley of HB's climate follows loosely along the same lines as the traditional real world seasons and climates, with four seasons each with common traits.
Spring: Season of growth, coming of new plants and lots of rain
Summer: Season of warmth, always the warmest and the most lively
Fall: Season of chill, leaves are falling and the temps get colder
Winter: Season of ice, always cold and full of snow

While these seasons still happen in this valley, how the clans experience them depend on which clan you are in.
For Summitclan, they experience snow and cold in all seasons, except Summer.
For Pineclan, they experience the seasons as they are described.
For Tideclan, they feel the seasons as warmer and with much less snow in Winter.

Inhabitants

These lists display what animals are found throughout the valley, not specifying where they are found. Some of them are not found on any of the clan lists due to their rarity.

Clan Formation	The beginning of the three clans is one that, oddly, there aren't many tales of. The only vague stories that have ever been consistent were ones of the ancient clans: Lionclan, Tigerclan, and Leopardclan. No one knows for sure whether these cat-ancestor clans were actually real, but many of the oldest Elders within the clans will often tell tall tales of the ancient three, claiming that the current three are descendants of theirs. Summitclan were descendants of Lionclan, Pineclan were descendants of Tigerclan, and Tideclan were descendants of Leopardclan. These things may not be true, but hey, it entertains the young ones.
The Great Three	Admittedly, within the history of the three clans, there are not very many stories of the clans that fully stick. Yeah there are some names that get thrown around from time to time, but not many who leave a lasting effect. But, there is one, or rather three, that remain consistent within the clans. While the true origins of the three clans isn't fully known, there are those who know of three of the greatest Leaders the three clans ever had, all three of whom led their clans at the same period in time. Wolfstar of Summitclan, Elkstar of Pineclan, and Viperstar of Tideclan. Among all three clans, the story of these three is one that very few leave forgotten. It is believed that these three are the ones who truly made the clans who they are today, and while all three of these Leaders were grand in their own right, their story depends on who you ask.
Wolfstar's Reign	Wolfstar was an amalgamation of all of the traits that Summitclan is known for in current times: a very large and fluffy tom with massive paws, a pure white coat, and an ego enough to have the whole valley covered. He valued strength above all else in his clan and, of them all, he was one of the bravest. After an avalanche buried the Deputy and Leader at that time, a large majority of the clan had chosen him to be the next in line. After his takeover as Leader of Summitclan, Wolfstar was determined to change the clan for the better, to use their home to grow stronger rather than to learn to hide away. Under his rule, cats began to learn better the ways of the mountain and the snow, growing stronger with each moon that they perfected their ways. Wolfstar was the creator of Summitclan's unique rank, the Mountain Climbers, and he designated himself as both Leader of the clan and a strict leader of the Climbers. He trained all of those who were willing to take on the role and he performed the duties himself. Many within the clan, both back when and now, view him as the epitomy of what a Summitclan cat should be.
Elkstar's Reign	In her time, Elkstar was a beautiful she-cat adored by all of those who resided beside her. She had an upbringing that turned her into a proper lady: calm, elegant, regal, and observant. Everything she did she did with purpose, and it was these traits that rightfully forged her path from Apprentice to Warrior to Deputy to Leader. During her reign, Elkstar put Pineclan above all else and was determined to make the clan do the same, but not to the normal degree that most think of. She did not just focus on their safety and prosperity, she also put a lot of attention into possession and loyalty. In her eyes, Pineclan were the rulers of the forest, therefore, they should own all of the forest, including their two borders. Many battles against the other clans in fight for the borders occurred in her time, and while most would think that constant battle like this was too risky, the clan saw the benefits of the extra land and followed suit In addition, because of her desire to keep the borders under Pineclan's name, it was Elkstar who first created the role of Night Walker within the clan, and it was her Deputy, a tom named Nightshade, who had already been rather nocturnal compared to most, who trained those who wished to partake. Elkstar was also the sort who was very untrusting and rather passive aggressive towards the other clans, strongly believing that the only cats ever worthy of proper trust were her own. She did not force this perspective onto the clan, but seeing as her influence ran strong thus far, the clan followed suit.
Viperstar's Reign	Viperstar was much like a "traditional" Tideclan cat: she was born and raised amongst a family of many, many of whom were not directly related, but were raised as family nonetheless. She was naturally family-oriented with so many siblings and parents, but even in her young age she had learned to be clever, for cleverness could get you anywhere if you used it properly. In her Warrior years, she was a tireless worker with a gleam in her eye and a smooth tongue. When she wanted something, she got it. And what she wanted was to be Leader, or at the very least Deputy. But she knew that her efforts would have to be stronger, she couldn't do this the normal way. So, it was Viper who first began to test the limits of the ocean, pulling plants from the sandy ground, soaking in the salty water, watching and learning the rhythm of the waves. In a sense, she was the first of the Water Readers before they were even a rank. And it was in her time experimenting that she discovered that not all of the plants she pulled from the sea were safe, there were some that were very toxic and could kill a cat pretty quickly. She brought many of her findings to the high ranks at the time, and it was she who first inspired Tideclan to begin using these to their advantage. Luckily for her, her timing was just right, as the Deputy had fallen ill and passed on, after which she was named the new Deputy. This part is really unknown and often contested among those who enjoy history, but not too long after her rise to Deputyship, the Leader too had passed away, leaving her to become Viperstar. While the other clans believe that Viperstar was just as wicked as her namesake and killed the Leader so she could rise to power, Tideclan believes that the Leader at the time had passed away from old age or just natural causes. Who's to say. But, in her rise to power, Viperstar began to teach her sea-bound findings to more of the clan, eventually forming the Water Readers.
Battle of the Leaders	There was a year within the valley when it seemed that the land of the clans was without mercy. A cold and muddy Newleaf, a complete lack of rain and an abundance of overwhelming heat in Greenleaf, endless storms and rain in Leaffall, and one of the harshest Leafbare's the valley had ever seen. Every single season was a struggle, and the clans were on their last paws. By this time, the three Leaders had been leading their clans for quite some time, and all of them were down to nearly their last lives. They were growing older, and they knew that if the clans were going to recover, they needed much younger and stronger cats to get them through it. But, after so much time of fighting and competing, the three Leaders met and formed an agreement. They would have one final battle. Rather than simply retire and grow old, the Leaders would use their final lives for the honor of their clans. And, rather than simple 1 on 1 rivalries growing stronger, they would all three fight at once, separating any previous grudges. With the supervision of select other members of their clans, the three Leaders gathered together, not at a sacred land, but along the beaches of Tideclan. It was agreed that once the battle was over, what Leaders were dead, if any, should be offered to the sea. The battle was fierce, and all three Leaders fought with all of the might they had left in them. Wolfstar used his brutish strength to throw the other two and knock them away. Elkstar used her finesse and graceful movements to dodge all attacks that came her way. And Viperstar used her surroundings to her advantage, leaping across the beach boulders and throwing sand in her opponents' eyes. Each of them had their own methods of attack, and all of them were effective. The first to fall was Viperstar, outmaneuvered by Elkstar's quick movements. The next to fall was Elkstar, a victim of Wolfstar's massive claw. One would assume that this left Wolfstar victorious. But no. Before her own loss, Viperstar had coated her claws in poison she developed herself from plants found within the sea, and she raked those claws across every portion of Wolfstar's body that she could reach. In the end, Wolfstar succumbed to both his wounds and the poison. That day, all three great Leaders died, an honor to their clans. Without shedding any blood on sacred land, the three Leaders may have fought to the death, but their clans knew that even in death and even in rivalry, the three were proud to be pushed out to sea, not separate, but together.
